If you’re planning on having friends and family over for the holiday, it is best to begin your Fourth of July preparations now. This advice applies for any party you are planning that includes using your swimming pool.
CHECKLIST:
Clean your filter. A clean filter will provide your guests with clean and sparkling water.
Clear your pump basket and impeller. This will help with circulation…should be checked on a weekly basis.
Brush and vacuum. You want to be sure there is not an issue with your filter…vacuuming now will allow you to see if debris is shooting out of the return lines. If so, you still have time to remedy the problem.
Balance your water chemistry. Get your pH to 7.2 to 7.6 ppm and your sanitizer to 2.0 ppm (minimum). You don’t want to have a strong chlorine odor or have your water get cloudy while they are in the pool.
Add a clarifier. A clarifier will help minimize and contain unwanted contaminants such as sweat, skin cells, soap from swimmer’s clothes, urine, etc.
Check your heater. If you plan on using your hot tub, be sure the heater is working now. Having a clean filter is an essential part of your heater functioning or not.
Pool/Spa lights. Although not necessary, it’s always nice to know your lights will turn on when you want them to work.
While people are swimming, it’s best to keep your pump running so that water is being filtered. I also suggest to check your chlorine level after the swimmers are out of the pool. I like to have a gallon of liquid chlorine on hand that will boost your level immediately.
If you follow these tips, you will have a stress free pool day.
BE SURE THAT IF CHILDREN ARE PRESENT…DO NOT ASSUME ANOTHER ADULT IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THEIR SAFETY!!
Have an enjoyable 4th of July!!
